Smiles Across the Miles

Image:  SU 'Little Boys'.  Cardstock:  Textured red, 'Fair Skies' DP.  Ink:  copics.  Accessories:  clear button.

Thanks to Vickie for sending this fun image for our monthly image swap on Splitcoaststampers!  This image was fun to color and try new techniques (see the dog's coat?  First time I tried this, in case you couldn't tell).  The most difficult part was finding a coordinating sentiment, so I decided on 'sending smiles across the miles' from Papertrey.

Sketch is courtesy of Tuesday Morning Sketch challenge #276.  I rotated the sketch to coordinate with my image; it's such a versatile sketch that it works either direction!

For my card, I chose to use the sketch, the color combo, and the mod DP style for my gate fold card.  The biggest issue I have with gate fold cards is their inability to remain closed.  To improve this issue, I created a flap between the DP and base and also used ribbon to secure the closure:

This card is also entered in Bearly Mine Design's Christmas Card Challenge

For my card, I went with the sketch, CAS (my favorite style!), and color combo.  'Birdbrain with Winter Scarf' has another perfect sentiment, but I couldn't quite fit it on the card corner:  "My gauge was fine until my third glass of wine".  Too funny!

Friends by the Garden Gate

Images:  Impression Obsession, Papertry 'Mailbox Greetings, Through the Trees'.  Paper:  SU Old Olive.  Ink:  Copics, Real Red.  Accessories:  embossing powder.
I'm part of a great group of gals on Splitcoaststampers who have a monthly image swap.  This is the May image, so you can tell that I'm the slacker of the group!  Let's just say that summer was not the carefree time I imagined it would be....

The bonus challenge for this month hosted by Susanne was to decorate this seasonal gate.  I decided to go in a little different direction and let the gate be the decoration for the background scenery.  The gate swings open to reveal this:

here's hoping for a calm and healthy Fall so I can catch up on June through September!
